The Sturmgewehr 44 (StG 44) was a revolutionary assault rifle used by German forces during the latter part of World War II. As the world’s first true assault rifle, it combined the firepower of a submachine gun with the accuracy of a rifle. Chambered for the 7.92x33mm Kurz cartridge, the StG 44 featured selective fire, allowing soldiers to switch between semi-automatic and fully automatic modes. Its innovative design significantly improved infantry firepower and versatility in combat. Although produced in limited numbers, the StG 44 influenced future assault rifles and remains a notable advancement in small arms history.
